The Criminal Justice Department exists to support the organisation through the effective management of community safety services (e.g. hate crime, youth justice, neighbourhood watch), criminal legislation, and justice development and policy. Criminal Justice also has responsibility for overseeing Policing with the Community and within this remit the Department supports District Commanders in developing Neighbourhood Policing. Much of the work of the Criminal Justice Department is developed in partnership with other organisations and agencies – such as the Government, District Policing Partnerships, Health Trusts and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
Finance and Support Services Department has responsibility for achieving the most effective and efficient use of policing resources – a remit that includes financial reporting and accounting, management accounting, procurement and logistics and the Police Estate.

Company description
The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s purpose is to make Northern Ireland safer for everyone through professional, progressive policing. We achieve this goal through policing with the community. This proactive, community-driven approach sees the police and local community working together to identify and solve problems.
The Crime Operations Department is responsible for conducting all investigations into organised crime and serious crime, including murder and terrorism. Teams of detectives work with in-house specialists, including crime analysts and scientific support officers and staff, to deliver investigations and manage intelligence.
The Police Service is one of Northern Ireland’s largest employers. The Human Resources department is responsible for developing, supporting and training all officers and staff, promoting their health and welfare and ensuring that the right people with the right skills are allocated to help make Northern Ireland a safer place for everyone.

The Human Resources Department consists of five branches.
The Equality and Diversity Unit is responsible for developing and driving the Police Service’s commitment to promoting equality of opportunity and diversity. We strive to ensure our workforce not only reflects the community it serves but is also capable of meeting its needs.
The Health and Safety Branch is responsible for the implementation of all Health and Safety Legislation applicable to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
The Occupational Health and Welfare Branch is made up of a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. They are committed to supporting the health of the organisation, and helping officers and support staff to maintain their health and well-being in order to carry out their duties safely and effectively.
Personnel Branch’s role includes the management of recruitment contracts, allocation of officers and staff, reward, recognition and employee relations.
